Back to School

Arkansas Fashion Council created an Initiative called “Back to School” which consists of clothes, books, and school supplies. Arkansas Fashion Council is a  catalyst to Dillard’s, Walmart, Goodwill, and many other local businesses. The initiative will include the participation of Barber-shops and Hair-Salons issuing out services to kid recipients in need in Central and North-West Arkansas. The participation of Kids in Need Foundation issues school supplies to schools in Washington, Benton, Pulaski, Faulkner Counties.

We will have the collaboration of the local school districts to filter out who is eligible for free and reduced lunches. A schools are selected based upon Title One and Free & Reduced Lunch information and letter will be sent to the recipient’s household prior to the initiative to accept or decline the service.

We hope to expand the promotion of literacy by teaming up with Dolly Parton’s book program to incorporate that every child recipient receives a book.  In addition to our current participants, there are many more businesses to participate.

The clothing packaging will be from Walmart or Dillard’s. The pick-up event will be held the first Friday of August at the local Goodwill's or Churches (the exact date and time can be found on our "Events" and on our calendar). Our goal for the 1st year is to reach at least 1,000 students at the charter schools Jacksonville Lighthouse and NWA Classical Academy, and to make a difference in the state of Arkansas resulting in other states to follow suit.
